Relax your Body - Open your Heart

during this ‘Yoga of Acro’ Lunar retreat style weekend

In the fast-paced world, with many challenges and distractions, it can be a challenge to find spaces to slow down. Even when it’s more needed than ever, when the loneliness reaches new heights, and people get disconnected from their bodies.

This weekend invites you to slow down, to connect with your own body, to connect with others in a non-performance kind of way, and to practice receiving the healing effect of touch.

With the daily hours of sitting, your spine compresses and the energy in your body has a harder time to flow. Daily hanging exercises are one solution, but what if you could offer (and receive) a much more well-rounded and more enjoyable way of spinal decompression?

The practice of Yoga has many different elements that are beautiful to use for exploring yourself. The breath signals whether the pose feels easy and effortless or whether you're struggling and maybe pushing yourself physically. The thoughts that are racing in your mind show your patterns and (limiting) beliefs. Having a more mobile and available body will help you to enjoy and go deeper both as giver and receiver of therapeutic flying. We will guide you through these different elements of the practice to get to know yourself in a new way. Connect with yourself before connecting with others.

Thai massage is a form of healing that is even practiced in many hospitals in Thailand. ‘The healing art of touch’ offers a modality beyond modern medicine. You will learn how to use your body parts and gravity to give a massage that does not tire you, and even has benefits for you as a giver. With the skills and knowledge of this session, the therapeutic flying will make much more sense. This is also a great place to practice the balance between giving and receiving, so that the energy does not ‘just’ flow from one person into the other, leaving the giver drained, but becomes an expansion for both.

Therapeutic flying is often described as receiving a massage while up in the air, where there is no table or floor limiting the movement possibilities. It's one of the most precious and more hidden gems that the practice of Acroyoga has to offer. If you are already an Acroyoga practitioner, this weekend will enhance your understanding of Acroyoga, challenge you in a very different and complementary way of the solar part of the practice, and give you the possibility to share its benefits with more people.

To offer this type of massage, you need some practice and skills, and overcome the fact that it might look quite impossible. We developed new techniques that make therapeutic flying more accessible for beginners and we are very passionate in sharing these techniques to help people feel better in their bodies.

The practice is not just about learning to give, you’ll also learn to receive. Instead of having to accept whatever is offered to you, to not sound ungrateful or complain, we will provide some extra tools of communication to make sure you can explore what you would really like to receive instead. These tools are valuable throughout our lives, as any contact with others is about giving and receiving.

What to expect:

2-day intensive focused on the inside of acroyoga. You will learn the soft, receiving, and relaxing side of Acroyoga.

The schedule will be a mix of yoga, partner yoga, Thai massage, therapeutic flying, pranayama, authentic relating and group dynamics.

  • You will learn a yoga sequence that will warm up your body, lubricate your joints and make your body available to give and receive massages and lunar flying.

  • You will learn awareness of the breath respecting spaces, cycles and rhythms that will be emphasised in all the movement practices, using pranayama techniques as a bridge between a deeper connection to our breath and to our spirit.

  • You will learn communication skills that can be applied to your day-to-day and your interaction with others.

  • You will get tools around consent to be able to give and receive responses with integrity/ establish relationships with integrity.

  • You will learn Thai massage techniques that will help release stress and let go of tension in your body as well as the receiver so you can bring relaxation to the people around you.

  • You will learn accessible techniques of therapeutic flying that help decompress and lengthen the spine, and create space in areas of tension.

The whole weekend will be based on principles of authentic relating, creating safe spaces and a context where you can practice vulnerability in asking for what you need, and can relate to others from authenticity.

This weekend is for:

  • Everyone that has a wish to connect to others and improve their interpersonal relationships.

  • Acroyoga practitioners that want to learn and improve lunar acro skills and group dynamics.

  • People interested in massage techniques that want to learn more tools to help relax and heal the body.

  • Movement teachers that want to incorporate exercises to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system to improve relaxation and recovery.

Extra information

This weekend intensive is beginner-friendly and you do not need to come with a partner. We will rotate partners and you will be able to meet many new friends to practice with.

This weekend includes a lot of practices that make you touch other people. We will provide tools and practices around consent, however, if you are not comfortable with touch and closeness, expect to be challenged.

We offer multi-level exercises on therapeutic flying. If you are more experienced with Acroyoga, we are happy to show you more advanced options as well. Keep in mind that the purpose of the lunar side of acroyoga is to connect, breath and heal together. This often means that less is more!

Therapeutic flying is an excellent place to start if you don’t have a lot of experience in Acroyoga (as a base), as the poses are slow and there are not many transitions. If you are working with a person that is heavier and/or taller than you, you are in luck! We have developed new material for the practice, specifically for this situation. Instead of giving the Thai Massage in return, with the adaptations the practice of flying therapeutics becomes accessible to everyone. Most of the time we will give multiple options, so you can decide which ones to try and receive the benefits in either case.
